My first lenticulars focused on the built environment in two historic DC neighborhoods. I found that these pieces drew people into discussions of urban change in a way my flat photos had not. More recently, I’ve been making pieces that pair images of recent protests and marches with photographs of past demonstrations to get viewers considering the relationship between these events and to what changes and what remains the same. All of these pieces leave me with a feeling that what I’m making is not entirely mine. I’m using not only my photos, but pictures others have taken, and I’m drawing attention to the lives, work and courage of others. I think that the power of these pieces comes from what we share: a sense that even with continuing challenges and changing styles, Americans will continue to seek a better and fairer society.
