Kids Euro Festival: European Shorts (Ages 3+)

This year Kids Euro Festival is bringing a round of delightful short films from across Europe straight to Hill Center! We will feature films from Poland, Croatia, Latvia, Malta, Bulgaria, Slovenia, and Portugal. They will delight, entertain, and expand your child’s horizons as well as your own. This event should be fun for kids ages 3 and up!
Poland – Fences (2015) A bird in a cage, a toddler in a playpen, two dogs on either side of a fence. From beginning to end, our life is filled with partitions. Each of us deals with them in our own way. Does it really make sense to separate ourselves from our neighbors with a wall?

Croatia – Star Stuff (2015) A boy amazed by the stars in the night sky sets off on a voyage of great discovery. As one question is answered, more appear. Soon enough, where once stood but a curious boy, a great scientist will rise. Inspired by the life and work of Carl Sagan, one of the most famous scientists and science communicators of the 20th century.

Malta – Eleanor’s Forest Lost and alone in the woods a young girl, Eleanor, wanders hopefully towards far away mysterious lights. It would be simple if the trees could be trusted. Will she reach her goal before the world around her collapses?

Slovenia – Wild Sunbed / Naughty Toy Car / Freezing Scarf (2016) Wild Sunbed: One sleepy summer afternoon, Koyaa lies down to rest on a sunbed. The sweltering heat makes the bed go crazy – it starts bucking like a wild stallion! Koyaa can barely keep it under control…
Naughty Toy Car: One rainy day, Koyaa decides to tidy up his room. He steps on a toy car it takes him on a crazy ride. The toy starts behaving very naughtily, refusing to park, but clever Koyaa manages to outsmart it.
Freezing Scarf: Koyaa is getting ready to step outside into a cold winter’s day. He tries to grab his scarf off the clothes stand, but it slithers away like a snake, acting silly! Will Koyaa manage to get hold of it?

Latvia – Forest Guards (2015) The woodsman and his friends – a dog, a cat, and a mouse – are not happy to find piles of garbage in their forest. Then one day, the woodsman catches the culprit in the forest. But the woodsman is old and his shotgun is only loaded with cork, so the culprit merely laughs and carries on. All the forest creatures come together to help the Hunter clean up the forest. They do it so wisely that the forest not only becomes clean, but the culprit is stopped from dumping trash ever again.

Bulgaria – The Pear (2015) Sometimes a man becomes a wold, even for something as small and trivial as a piece of fruit.

Story Go Round (2016) Every child has dreams and yearns to discover new worlds. Every adult sometimes would love to go back to his childhood and feel free. This stop-animation movie is a product of a children’s workshop which took place during the World Animation Film Festival. The film authors are children aged 6 through 17.

Portugal – Countryside by the Sea (2015) As soon as summer comes around, strange invaders occupy the beaches.

Birdwatching (2014) A long time ago, Tião, the corn field keeper, lost by his fault, the company of an azure-winged magpie to whom, unwillingly, he had become attached. Since that day when silence filled the fields, Tião searches for that bird’s lost song.
