Street Scenes: Washington Women in Jazz Featuring Shana Tucker
Wednesday, March 14 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Hill Center is proud to host a performance for the 8th annual Washington Women in Jazz Festival in a collaboration with our Street Scenes concerts series, which focuses on new music composed by emerging DC jazz artists, curated by Burnett Thompson.
WWJF is a singular festival devoted to female jazz musicians based in Washington, DC, as well as their colleagues throughout the country. With links to the New York jazz scene and prominent institutions that include the Smithsonian Institution, the Festival casts a bright light on the role of women in jazz and jazz education. Amy K. Bormet, Director.
This concert will feature cellist, composer and vocalist Shana Tucker. Ms. Tucker has played a vital musical role in the Cirque du Soleil extravaganza over the last five years. Her performances cross boundaries from soul and jazz to classical and folk genres.
“Most importantly, the songs tell a story; that’s what a work of art should do…making the audience realize that life is universal. Compelling, distinctive, a sure sign of greater things to come.” – JazzTimes on Shana Tucker
Doors open at 6:30pm. Join us for a post-concert wine reception with the artist.
