REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS IS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO MAXIMUM ENROLLMENT. This semester, Daniela Enriquez will be teaching Italian Explorer, GLN’s Beginner level III class. Daniela was born in Italy and lived there until a few years ago. She has been teaching with GLN since Fall 2011. "My goal is to show my students that even though Italy has great food, wine, and soccer players—Italian culture includes much more than that. I love to teach the history of my language, how it developed from Latin and ended up with hundreds of different dialects, and how it is strongly connected to the essence of Italian culture—expressing itself through songs, dances, ceremonies, and gestures. In order to fulfill my goal, I try to involve my students in the many Italian cultural activities that D.C. offers so that they meet “real Italiani” and have
opportunities to test out their new language skills."
Class will take place from the week of February 4th until the week of April 29th. Registration will open on our webpage January 19th - January 23rd. The placement survey will ensure you're in an appropriate level course. Follow this link to the placement survey.
About Explorer (Beg. III)
You again? We’ve seen you before…and are glad you’ve returned. You feel more comfortable with the language and want to get more involved. You know the basics about the culture, but you wish to continue your exploration. So, grab your passport and let GLN teleport you into the target language and culture of your choice.
Speakers at this level can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. These speakers are able to successfully produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar, or of personal interest, and describe experiences and events, hopes, and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.
GLN requires each student to place a $150 refundable deposit. The student will get their deposit back at the end of the semester as long as they miss no more than 2 classes. Additionally, we charge a $50 non-refundable registration fee which covers IT, space rental costs, and other programmatic and administrative expenses.
