Martha Pope is a pastel artist living in Washington, D.C. Her paintings are interpretive landscapes that enhance the inspirational aspects of scenery. She freely adds and subtracts objects, details, light and color in her paintings to capture the essence of scenes she finds captivating.

Ms. Pope is a member of the Wednesday Studio at the Capitol Hill Art Workshop, as well as the Capitol Hill Art League. She has studied watercolor painting under Gina Clapp and pastel under Ellen Cornett at CHAW. In addition, she has studied under Susan Abbott in Vermont, Provence and the Alexandria Art League.

Pope had a long public service career. She participated in United States, British and Irish government initiatives to end decades of conflict in Northern Ireland. Those negotiations led to the signing of the historic peace accord known as the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.

From 1991 to 1994, Ms. Pope held senior positions for the United States Senate. In 1991, the Senate elected her Sergeant at Arms of the Senate and in 1994, the Senate elected her Secretary of the Senate. Prior to 1994, she served as Chief of Staff to Senate Majority Leader George J. Mitchell. Ms. Pope is a Trustee for Hofstra University and serves on the boards of the Capitol Hill Community Foundation and the Chiarina Chamber Players.
