About Richard Hensley
I graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1972 and received my masters degree from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1974. My wife, Donna Polseno, and I moved to Floyd Virginia in 1974 and have lived and worked here ever since. We have taught ceramics at Hollins University for the past 14 years and have recently built a new studio near our home. No more commuting to our clay workshop!
I am making porcelain functional ceramics and currently embarked on a project to use electric kiln firing and begin moving my work away from atmospheric gas firing. Its a challenging task for me but I’m having good results and enjoying the journey.
