This workshop will provide parents of adopted children with practical education about hair care techniques and cultural competency around understanding about the role of hair in culture. Through discussion and hands-on activities, parents will:
- Build awareness of African American and Black culture regarding hair care and the connection with self-esteem and identity
- Learn basic tools and skills for hair care, and provide the opportunity for hands-on practice of new skills
- Engage in dialogue about parental challenges and successes of meeting hair care needs

Facilitated by Ms. Kimberly Bonham, LCSW. Ms. Bonham is the Supervisor for the Foster Family and Adoptive Services team in Arlington County Department of Human Services. She has worked in child welfare for sixteen years, and the content of this workshop combines her passion for healthy African-American hair care with her career in child welfare.
