Hill Center is thrilled to welcome back C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band to kick off our free, outdoor American Roots Music Series for Spring 2022!
Creole-born musician C.J. Chenier delivers soulful vocals along with masterful accordion-driven Zydeco and Blues. Chenier has performed alongside many internationally-recognized artists including his father, Clifton Chenier (“The King of Zydeco”), Paul Simon, Joe Sample and Ray Parker, Jr. In addition to his Grammy Award nomination in the Best Regional Roots Music Album category, C.J. Chenier has received many major awards including the Living Blues Critics’ Poll Award, Indie Award (from AFIM) for Best Zydeco Album, Coups de Coeur (Blows of Heart), Blues Category Award from l’Académie Charles Cros (France) and Best of the Beat Best Zydeco Album (Offbeat Magazine).
“This music is about as real as it gets. Zydeco accordionist CJ Chenier takes the mantle from his father and uncles, Clifton and Cleveland respectively, and puts out a hard hitting boogie and blues disc..”
-Jazz Weekly
“Although Chenier belongs to one of the most famous Zydeco musician families in recent history, his music can equally be described as blues, where the dazzling accordion plays the role of the electric guitar or harmonica.”

“His vocals and accordion continue to drip with top-line Louisiana hot sauce, keeping the good times rolling with energized adaptations of blues and Creole R&B classics.”
– Downbeat
*We are thrilled to celebrate Hill Center’s 10th anniversary and its post-pandemic revival!*
