In a live Zoom event, Elizabeth Becker discusses her new book, “You Don’t Belong Here: How Three Women Rewrote the Story of the War” (Public Affairs Books, 2021), with Karen DeYoung, the Associate Editor of The Washington Post. Becker tells the untold story of three extraordinary, pioneering female journalists who flouted convention and broke glass ceilings and changed how journalists covered conflict during the ten year Vietnam War.
Elizabeth Becker began her career as a war correspondent for The Washington Post covering Cambodia. A prize-winning journalist, she was also the Senior Foreign Editor of National Public Radio (NPR) and a New York Times correspondent. She is the author of “When the War Was Over, a modern history of Cambodia and the Khmer Rouge,“ for which she won a Robert F. Kennedy book citation.
Karen DeYoung is associate editor and senior national security correspondent for The Washington Post. In more than three decades at the paper, she has served as bureau chief in Latin America and London and as correspondent covering the White House, U.S. foreign policy and the intelligence community. She has been assistant managing editor for national news, national editor and foreign editor. She has won numerous awards for national and international reporting and is the author of “Soldier,” a biography of Colin Powell.
