$125.00Around the world there is a massive migration to reach family and home during the Chinese New Year celebrated this year from January 29th and ending with the Lantern Festival February 12th. Janet Cam will be cooking the celebratory dishes of her mother and grandmother she prepares every year for her adopted family of friends. Central to the Chinese New Year banquet is a velvety poached chicken with a surround of bbq pork, pork belly, lop cheung sausage and the accompanying sauces. The dish will be prepared as described in the recent issue of Bethesda Magazine November/December issue (see below). Hong bao (red envelope), stories and family traditions to the most important Chinese holiday will be shared.
The exquisite menu will feature:
Popo’s Chicken served with garnishes and sauces
Egg Drop Seaweed Soup
Stir-fried Shanghainese Bok Choy with Cloud Ears
Congee
Oranges with Lambrusco
Festival Rice
Wine will be paired with the meal as well as a non-alcohol mocktail.
Janet Cam is a Culinary Strategist and wine expert, best known as the co-founder of DC’s storied restaurant, Le Pavillon, the first nouvelle cuisine restaurant in the U.S., honored with Wine Spectator’s Grand Award for their wine list. Cam provides consulting services to restaurant and hospitality businesses. She conducts wine tastings for both public and private concerns. Associated with the James Beard Foundation, The Smithsonian Food History Project’s advisory group, the Kitchen Cabinet and will launch the University of Maryland at Eastern Shore Wine Program in 2025 open to the public.
