BREAKING: FROM THE STREETS TO THE OLYMPICS

Four breakers of different generations grapple with the changing nature of breakdancing.

How did breakdancing, a 1970s and 80s street dance created by Black and Latino kids in the Bronx, explode into a global phenomenon – ultimately winning a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games? And what does it mean for a subculture to go mainstream? In this short documentary, B-Boys and B-girls across generations grapple with the changing nature of breakdancing – known in their community simply as breaking. (TRT: approx. 20 minutes)

Join us for a screening and Q&A with the director, Vanessa Johnston, and a DC breakdancer.
