EAST Welcomes Back DQSH’s D’Manda Martini for Superhero Symbolism!
Ever wonder how Captain America got his shield? What inspired Marvel’s Storm to have that shiny white hair? Back by popular demand, D’Manda Martini joins us again this season to share the history of superhero symbolism and what we’ve grown to recognize as iconic superhero symbols of today. The kids will create their own iconic superheroes with logos and character development to bring them to life.
About D’Manda Martini: A DC-Area nominated actor & costume designer in community theaters, she is the hostess of several regular shows around DC & Maryland, and regularly participates in local Drag Queen Story Hour. She’s also performed at Comic Conventions including Farpoint Con, Katsucon, AwesomeCon, & FlameCon. Please follow her on social media @dmandamartini across all platforms to find out what she’s up to and where you can see her!
**Youth volunteer opportunities** Looking for some volunteer hours? EAST offers volunteering opportunities for youth ages 14+. Reach out to us if interested!
The Eastern Market Art Series & Teachings – EAST – is an ongoing series that brings artists and children (between 6 and 10 years old) together to explore a different craft or medium each month. Each workshop has volunteer opportunities for youth & teens (11 years old and up) to help support the workshop. Please contact hillcentereast@gmail.com for more information.
Our program is made possible by the Near Southeast Community Partners and the CSX Mitigation Fund as well as the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
