Charlie Visconage joins EAST again for their May workshop to share his art journey traveling to Matsudo City, Japan, and back. Kids will learn how to create portraits at home inspired by their surroundings and mix them with 5-10 second videos. During his Paradise AIR residency in Japan, Charlie used his new environment to create a mixed media video inspired by the 1980s Panasonic commercial starring George Lucas. He will share with the kids how to think about a bigger world in a tiny place.
Like most of Charlie’s workshops, this is an interactive, hands-on workshop perfect for children ages 6 to 10 years old. Charlie is a self-taught artist living in Washington, DC. He’s known for his brightly colored, funny portraits of people and animals. His latest work can be found on Instagram @cavisconage.
The Eastern Market Art Series & Teachings – EAST – is an ongoing series that brings artists and children (between 6 and 10 years old) together to explore a different craft or medium each month. Each workshop has volunteer opportunities for youth & teens (11 years old and up) to help support the workshop. Please contact hillcentereast@gmail.com for more information.
Our program is made possible by the Near Southeast Community Partners and the CSX Mitigation Fund as well as the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
