To kick off 2020, we will be joined by returning artist Mona Lee and Founder of SWAG Works DC, along with professional artist Dominique Hughes to create New Years’ themed canvas paintings!Swag Works DC workshop

The kids will imagine their own canvas masterpieces and submerge themselves in acrylic paint, applying their own twist to the theme with their choice of designs and colors to create an inspirational piece. Canvas, paint, brushes, and aprons will be supplied.

SWAG Works DC is a collective art group providing art services and education to the Southeast DC Community and Metropolitan Area. SWAG Works (Southeast Washington Art Group) mission is to promote and bring together established local artists with residents in providing art education classes, paint workshops and art events.

As a corporate Program Coordinator and Artist, Lisa G. Clarke (who goes by Mona Lee in the art world) formed SWAG Works DC to promote and contract professional artists in supplying art instruction to students –  in schools and senior centers, workshops and events with an interest in the visual arts.

Lisa has a goal to continue to serve the community and has a dream to build a dynamic art center that will create a platform for all to experience regular art classes in all forms.

Dominique Hughes is a mixed media/multi-media artist, from paintings to pieces of spoken word. Her art is representational with a twist. Effervescent colors, lots of texture and layering add a personal, sometimes surrealistic, perspective.

Choreography was her first form of artistic expression and she says it is a joy to merge her movement of thoughts with the movement of her paintbrush, to build texture to create something completely new.
