Explore the world of graffiti-style art and scene creation with DC-based artist Jay Akita!
Jay Akita is co-founder of the artist collective known as OddWatch. Akita was born in DC and thus gained a lot of inspiration from the graffiti art found all over the city, among other sources like cartoons and comics, video games, and Asian culture. Akita blends a cartoonish style with his abstract scenes. He is then able to borrow from elements of video games and comics, such as backstory and connecting universes, while using nature-based aesthetics. An important aspect of Akita’s work are the color palettes he applies in order to convey the story.
The Eastern Market Art Series & Trainings – EAST – is an ongoing series that brings artists and children (between 6 and 10 years old) together to explore a different craft or medium each month. Each workshop has volunteer opportunities for youth & teens (11 years old and up) to help support the workshop. Please contact email@example.com for more information.
Our program is in made possible by the Near Southeast Community Partners and the CSX Mitigation Fund as well as the Capitol Hill Community Foundation.
