Jazz Quintet: Dial 251
Friday, June 7 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Hill Center is proud to welcome Dial 251 for an evening of Jazz Messengers-inspired funky hard bop—a fusion of straight-ahead jazz, Latin, soul, and rhythm and blues.
Dial 251 embodies the vibrance of DC’s extraordinary jazz community. Combining musicians from all corners of the nation, the band was forged in the alleys of Capitol Hill. Dial 251 quickly emerged as one of the most exciting new groups in the region: “A crisp, cohesive unit with gifted soloists and a great deal to say,” writes Michael West in the The Washington Post.
The band’s signature sound features bold horn lines from sax player Bryan McEntire and trumpeter Charles Whalen atop the propulsive rhythm section of keyboardist Matt Leonhardt, bassist Jon Steele, and drummer Greg Reaves. Dial 251 has performed at the National Cherry Blossom Festival, DC JazzFest, US Botanic Garden and Art All Night.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Join us for a post-concert wine reception with the musicians.
