Kids Euro Festival: Blazing a Trail, An Irish Reading Workshop (Ages 8-12)

Find out about some of Ireland’s most remarkable women in this interactive workshop
featuring storytelling and drama.
In this event you will hear about some remarkable Irish-American women, from champion
of workers’ rights, Mother Jones, to gold prospector, Nellie Cashman, plus Anne Sullivan
who was Helen Keller’s ground-breaking teacher and American Civil War solider, Albert DJ
Cashier who had a remarkable secret.
You will get the chance to act out a scene from the life of ground-breaking 19th doctor Dr James Barry (aka Margaret Ann Bulkley), and dress up as Hollywood star, Maureen O’Hara. And you will also wear the robe of the first female President of Ireland, Mary Robinson. Are you as brave and daring as the women from Ireland’s history? Come to this workshop and find out!
Based on the true-life tales from Sarah’s book, “Blazing a Trail: Irish Women Who Changed the World” illustrated by Lauren O’Neill (which won an Irish Book Award), this event is a must for families who love finding out new facts!
Sarah Webb is an award-winning children’s writer based in Dublin, Ireland. She has published over eighteen books for children, including: “A Sailor Went to Sea, Sea, Sea,” illustrated by Steve McCarthy (which won an Irish Book Award) and the Ask Amy Green series (Walker Books and Candlewick Books, US). In 2015, she was awarded the Children’s Books Ireland Award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Literature.
