Hill Center is delighted to welcome Chef Lisa Ruland to our roster of Master Chefs. Lisa is the editor of the IACP (International Association of Culinary Professionals) Award-winning food and cooking website Unpeeled Journal, and a professional food writer and pastry chef. Participants will learn some essential baking techniques and whip up some fall delicacies:
- Individual apple galettes: learn to make pie dough from scratch and craft them into individual apple galettes. Think apple pie without the fuss, or time commitment.
- Pumpkin pecan muffins with homemade streusel topping: learn not only a basic creaming method for making cakes and muffins, but how to make an all-purpose homemade streusel topping that can be used for crumbles, pies, and more
- Additionally homemade mulled apple cider will be served.
A former attorney, Lisa swapped the courtroom for a pastry kitchen, earning her degree in baking and pastry from the Culinary Institute of America, where she was class valedictorian.
In addition to pastry experience from some of New York City’s most celebrated bakeries, Lisa’s original recipes and food writing have appeared in Bon Appétit, Eater, Saveur, Taste, The Washington Post, and more.
This class requires at least 6 participants. Participants will be notified if the minimum is not met. Registration will close a couple days before the class so the instructor can shop for the appropriate amount of ingredients.
