Join Lead Teaching Artist, Omar Cruz, for this In-Person session of Opera Starts with Oh! exploring the opera Silvain by André Grétry!
Silvain was one of Grétry’s most famous operas! This opera focuses on the themes of family conflict and reconciliation. It follows the story of Silvain, who works as a poor farmer after being disinherited by his rich father for marrying a lower-class woman. Silvain is a great example of opéra-comique (opera with both speaking and singing parts) which was a popular style during the 1700s!
Join us Saturday April 9th, as we as we dive deeper into Silvain and learn about all the aspects that bring it to life!
We are pleased to welcome back Guest Artists: Sarah Laughland, Jeannette Christensen, and Rachel Felstein! Together, we’ll rotate through each room’s different activities, which will include dance, costume design, and opera singing as it relates to Silvain!
This program is about 2 hours long and begins at 1:30PM EST. Opera Starts with Oh! In-Person will be hosted here at Hill Center on the 1st floor.
Please contact Jace Chambers for any assistance regarding this program: jacechambers@operalafayette.org
