About Opera Lafayette
Opera Lafayette is the nation’s only American period instrument opera company which performs its entire season in New York City and the nation’s capital. Currently celebrating its 24th season, the company brings today’s audiences fresh interpretations of 17th- and 18th-century rediscovered gems and historical masterpieces, illuminating the contemporary relevance of the works together with their original appeal. Central to the company’s mission is creating a recorded legacy of the timeless repertoire Opera Lafayette brings back to life. These recordings underscore the company’s artistic mastery and are a primary resource Opera Lafayette uses to build public appreciation of this repertoire.
This family programming is Opera Lafayette’s newest Community Engagement initiative. These family-friendly open houses and workshops not only help strengthen an appreciation for opera as an art form but utilize opera to connect families through the arts. This community engagement program works to introduce youth to the original Gesamtkunstwerk (total work of opera) and features activities which connect children and adults to many of the arts and humanities: music making, storytelling, culture and language, visual arts and design, and dance. The program is designed to engage with different types of learners: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic, and Tactile.
Next Opera Open House and Workshop: Saturday, March 9, 2019 with a focus on Stradella’s La Susanna, based on the biblical story of Susanna and the Elders.
