$89.00Join DMV photographer Deb Lindsey and food editor Bonnie Benwick as they spend the afternoon showing you how to make your food photos their mouthwatering best.
Through Deb’s demos, you’ll discover how to shape available window light, use simple modifiers to help with light, and explore flash techniques that will make your photos pop. Participants then will be encouraged and coached to create photographs using these new skills. With Bonnie, you’ll pick up tips and tricks for styling, how to choose the right props, and how to approach food that’s harder to shoot {ex. brown!).
Deb Lindsey began her career as a photojournalist, working for a small suburban newspaper chain in the Washington DC area. After several years of being behind the camera, she made the switch to management as a photo editor at the Washington Post. Deb worked at the Post for 17 years and left to grow the freelance photography business she started in 2007. Much of her work today is related to the food scene in the DC area. Her editorial photography appears regularly in The Washington Post, Bethesda Magazine and Arlington Magazine. Deb also works for several top restaurants in the DMV, photographing their seasonal menus and interiors, providing content for their websites, marketing and social media.
Bonnie Benwick is a freelance editor, recipe tester/developer and consultant. She served as a food editor (andoftentimes art director/stylist) at The Washington Post from 2004-2019, and has led Hill Center’s annual Holiday Cookie Baking class since 2013. Bonnie has co-taught several food photography/styling classes with renowned photographer Renee Comet through the Capital Photography Center.
This session is for amateurs and advanced amateurs; you should have some knowledge of the manual mode on your digital SLR or mirrorless camera. Please bring your camera with you! Small bites and complimentary beer and wine will be served.
