Chefs Lisa and Peter Chang are arguably the most celebrated Chinese chefs in the United Stated. As award-winning chefs and restaurateurs, the Changs are long celebrated for serving up some of the most crave-worthy and creative Chinese cuisine – ranging from hot and numbing Sichuan fare to a modern Chinese approach. More recently, they are striving to educate his diners on authentic and home-style dishes using traditional Chinese techniques.
Lisa Chang has over four decades of culinary experience. In addition to being extremely skilled in both sweet and savory pastries, Lisa is also a master of cooking home-style Chinese cuisine – rich with family heritage and history. She is also the proud matriarch of the Chang family and a longtime secret weapon for the Chang family’s restaurant empire. She is the mastermind behind the widely acclaimed Mama Chang in Fairfax, VA.
In 1984 Lisa met Peter while working as his superior on a river cruise ship on the Yangtze River. Lisa and Peter spent the next decade working in some of the most respected kitchens throughout China until 2001 when the family decided to accept a prestigious offer to cook as a duo at the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C.
Following their departure from the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC, the Changs resurfaced as featured guest chefs around the country. It was during this time that Peter Chang began to attract and build a cult following of devout diners known as “Changians.”
Both chefs have received praise from The Washington Post, The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Travel & Leisure. Peter Chang is a two-time James Beard finalist for Best Chef in the Mid-Atlantic and continues to build his reputation as one of the most celebrated Chinese chefs in the United States.
