Racism continues to be a consuming problem in the U.S. Join Bill as he talks to CNN anchor Don Lemon
about his new book, “This Is the Fire: What I Say to My Friends About Racism.” This best seller, part memoir and part history, is a passionate look at systemic racism, with some ideas on what to do about it. “He illuminates where American racism comes from, what it looks like and where it goes from here,” said a review in the Washington Post.
The title of Lemon’s book is an homage to “The Fire Next Time,” by James Baldwin, one of his literary heroes. Born and raised in Louisiana, Lemon graduated from Brooklyn College in 1996 and began his career in broadcast journalism as a news assistant in New York, joining CNN in 2006. His previous book, “Transparent,” is a memoir about his childhood and journey to becoming the first Black anchor on cable news.
