Veteran journalist Bill Press sits down for an in-depth conversation with Martin Walker, Former Foreign Correspondent and author of the popular Bruno: Chief of Police series

Walker is a former foreign correspondent reporting from the USSR, USA, Europe
and Africa for The Guardian. He is the author of the delightful, internationallyacclaimed mystery series featuring Bruno, Chief of Police.

Set in the Perigord region of rural France, home of truffles, foie gras,
great cheeses and wonderful wines, Benoit Courreges, aka Bruno,is a French country policeman and former soldier who was wounded while serving with UN peacekeepers during the siege of Sarajevo. Bruno hunts, cooks, tries never to arrest anyone and, hates to carry his gun (but sometimes must). He loves his basset hound, his horse and a complicated array of firmly independent women. A series of murders, intrigues, and other crimes consistently interrupt his peace and quiet.

In August of 2024, Walker will release A Grave in the Woods, book 17 in the series. With his wife, Julia Watson, Martin has recently released Bruno’s Cookbook: Recipes and Traditions from a French Country Kitchen, a sumptuous French cookbook that immerses readers in the delectable countryside cuisine of Bruno’s beloved Perigord region.

Bill Press began his career as a political insider and media commentator on KABC-TV and KCOP-TV, both in Los Angeles. Over the years, he has received numerous awards for his work, including four Emmys and a Golden Mike Award. He also served as aide to California Governor Jerry Brown and was Chair of the California Democratic Party from 1993 to 1996.

The former co-host of MSNBC’s Buchanan and Press, CNN’s Crossfire and The Spin Room, Press has built a national reputation on thought-provoking and humorous insights from the left side of the political aisle.

Press is the author of ten books and is the host of the twice-weekly “The Bill Press Pod” – available on Google, Apple, Spotify, or Tune-In. He’s a member of the White House press corps. He also writes a weekly column for The Hill and a weekly syndicated newspaper column distributed by Tribune Media Services.

East City Bookshop will have books for sale. A book signing will follow the conversation.

This event will be in-person at Hill Center and streamed live on our Facebook page.
