SUMMARY:American Roots Concert Series: Justin Golden & The Devil's Coattails
DESCRIPTION:In-person Register Here \nWe are delighted and grateful to welcome Justin Golden & The Devil’s Coattails to Hill Center for a rare performance. \nWith roots in the Mississippi Delta\, Chicago\, and the Piedmont of Virginia\, Richmond-based guitarist and songwriter Justin Golden’s origins are deeply vested in the blues. First picking up the guitar at age 19\, Golden did what came naturally and let the music flow through him. With an extremely diverse musical palette\, Golden aims to bring some new ideas to traditional blues forms. \nAt the age of 34\, a shocking Stage IV Cancer diagnosis in January of 2025 left Golden in a place of uncertainty\, fear and doubt. After more than a decade of intense touring\, recording\, and honing his craft\, Golden was forced to take an extended respite from musician life. He instead dedicated his time to manage chemotherapy treatments\, appointments\, and navigating the health insurance establishment. For most of 2025\, Golden had barely enough energy to play one local show each month. Although he still plays extremely limited tours as symptoms allow\, Golden’s treatment will be ongoing for the foreseeable future. Golden states that he “truly couldn’t have made it through 2025 without the support of [his] community.” \n \nThanks to all our sponsors: \n  \n\n\n

SUMMARY:Andalusian & North African Jazz Featuring Internationally Acclaimed Drummer Yogev Shetrit
DESCRIPTION:In-person Register Here“Way of Tradition” Solo Performance & Masterclass \nYogev Shetrit’s solo performance presents original compositions that fuse traditional North African\, Gnawa\, and Andalusian music from his Moroccan heritage with contemporary jazz and Mediterranean influences. Through drums\, rhythm\, and live musical storytelling\, Shetrit creates an intimate and powerful musical experience that connects ancient traditions with modern improvisation. \nHis latest album\, “Way of Tradition\,” was praised by All About Jazz for “keeping its jazz roots while weaving global influences\,” and for blending Moroccan\, Central Asian\, and Mediterranean traditions into a unique and personal musical language. The review highlighted how Shetrit’s music transcends geographical and stylistic boundaries and noted that the drums function not only rhythmically but melodically\, becoming a central voice in the music. \nBefore recording\, the compositions were performed extensively in concerts and festivals worldwide\, where audiences responded warmly to the music’s fresh yet deeply rooted cultural identity\, connecting both to its originality and its traditional influences. \nYogev’s masterclass explores the rich rhythmic traditions of the Middle East\, Morocco\, and the Mediterranean\, and their influence on jazz and contemporary music.
