DESCRIPTION:In-person Register Here“Way of Tradition” Solo Performance & Masterclass \nYogev Shetrit’s solo performance presents original compositions that fuse traditional North African\, Gnawa\, and Andalusian music from his Moroccan heritage with contemporary jazz and Mediterranean influences. Through drums\, rhythm\, and live musical storytelling\, Shetrit creates an intimate and powerful musical experience that connects ancient traditions with modern improvisation. \nHis latest album\, “Way of Tradition\,” was praised by All About Jazz for “keeping its jazz roots while weaving global influences\,” and for blending Moroccan\, Central Asian\, and Mediterranean traditions into a unique and personal musical language. The review highlighted how Shetrit’s music transcends geographical and stylistic boundaries and noted that the drums function not only rhythmically but melodically\, becoming a central voice in the music. \nBefore recording\, the compositions were performed extensively in concerts and festivals worldwide\, where audiences responded warmly to the music’s fresh yet deeply rooted cultural identity\, connecting both to its originality and its traditional influences. \nYogev’s masterclass explores the rich rhythmic traditions of the Middle East\, Morocco\, and the Mediterranean\, and their influence on jazz and contemporary music. Participants learn core rhythm concepts\, how to orchestrate them on different instruments\, and how to integrate them into modern performance. \nThe masterclass is highly participatory with audiences joining through clapping\, body percussion\, call-and-response\, and group rhythm exercises\, creating an engaging and inspiring shared musical experience. \n \nYogev Shetrit is an international composer and drummer\, born in 1978. He earned his BA in Musicology at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and was the founder and member of the internationally acclaimed Coolooloosh band. He has performed with notable artists including Chuchito Valdez\, Tia Fuller\, Arnie Lawrence\, Paulo Morello\, and Kevin Mahogany. \nA composer at heart\, Shetrit formed the Yogev Shetrit Trio in 2016 to perform his original music. Since then\, he has performed in over 50 countries at major festivals and prestigious venues including the International Panama Jazz Festival\, The Kennedy Center (Washington\, DC)\, Casa del Jazz (Rome)\, and many others.

DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereFeaturing Bandoneonist\, Heyni Solera and Cellist Maxfield Wollam-Fisher \nFor the past seven years\, Heyni Solera and Maxfield Wollam-Fisher have been actively working together in bringing live tango music to the Washington D.C. area through their performances with Da Capo Tango. Their collaboration led to their unique instrumentation as a cello/bandoneon duo. This dynamic duo focuses on playing tangos not commonly played on the dance floor and tangos written by composers who are alive today. Their mission is to foster a sense of community and collaboration between tango musicians\, organizers\, and dancers. They also provide outreach to new audiences that may not be aware of tango’s resurgence by working with directors and artists from other genres. In 2021\, Arco & Aire released their first EP\, Overture\, whose track\, “La Bordona” won the Best Latin Song for the 2022 Wammie Awards. In the summer of 2024 they released their first full album\, Una Noche Entre Sueños\, featuring eight commissions from contemporary tango composers.” \nAbout Heyni Solera:  Praised for her “soulful bandoneón” (Washington Classical Review)\, Heyni Solera is a sought after bandoneonist in Washington\, D.C. Heyni has enjoyed a career in the US and abroad performing in Argentina\, Canada and Australia and collaborating with prominent tango artists such as Ramiro Boero\, Julian Peralta\, Pablo Jaurena\, Santiago Segret\, Pedro Giraudo and many more. In 2019\, Heyni was a member of the Argentine tango orchestra schools La Orquesta de Tango de la Una and the Conservatorio Superior de “Manuel de Falla”\, where she had the opportunity to perform in the prestigious Centro Cultural Kirchner. \nAbout Maxfield Wollam-Fisher:  As a musician who revels in versatility\, Maxfield enjoys collaborating in every genre from the traditional to avant garde\, folk to pop. Recently he could be found on Becky G’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert\, Miss Lauryn Hill’s concert at the Capital One Arena in Washington\, DC\, and performing and recording tango in Argentina and around the United States. As a tango musician for nearly fifteen years\, Maxfield has performed with the likes of Julian Peralta\, Ramiro Boero\, Stratos Achlatis\, Victor LaVallen\, Pablo Zeigler and many others. Over this time he directed a number of projects including the Da Capo Tango Orchestra\, Orquesta Tipica Loca\, and the Mad City Live Tango Festival. Along with presenting workshops for both tango musicians and dancers\, Maxfield is an advocate for cello and contemporary tango and recently wrote and recorded a series of tango arrangements for solo cello in Buenos Aires. \n\n\nDavid Holiday\, a lifelong music aficionado \, founded Stone Room Concerts together with his wife in 2012 to bring intimate\, high-quality performances by local\, national\, and international independent musicians to the DMV area. He has curated and hosted well over 200 concerts over the past decade in his home\, churches\, and Hill Center.

Through live performance and conversation\, musicians will share both their artistry and their personal perspectives on this pivotal moment for Washington’s cultural community. \nMore than a concert\, this salon offers a chance to connect directly with the artists and gain insight into the challenges and opportunities facing the NSO and WNO—and why audience attendance remains one of the most meaningful ways to support live classical music. \nFollowing the performance\, attendees are invited to a candid Q&A with the musicians. DESCRIPTION:In-person Register Here“Maria Mazzotta has a remarkably memorable voice\, and a taste for musical adventure.” \n– RootsWorld \nCurated and hosted by iconic DC impresarios and musician Jim Thomson \nMaria Mazzotta’s unique versatility is what makes her one of the most important voices of the music scene in the Apulia region of Italy and\, more generally\, of world music towards which she has an extremely respectful approach\, backed by meticulous research into vocal characteristics of the area which highly differentiate the various cultures found within it. She moves in a natural\, seamless way from the sounds of Southern Italy to the inflections of balkan music\, and captivates the audience with her sincere interpretation as she carries them along while immersing them into the cultures of the songs interpreted. \nShe started studying the piano very young (for 7 years\, then the harp (for 3 years) at the “Tito Schipa” Conservatory in Lecce\, and in 1998 had her first encounter with the songs of the Salento tradition through listening to the original sources and by actively participating in the re-visitation and revival of these songs. \nFrom 2000 to 2015\, she was part of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino; a band she  recorded 6 albums with\, participating in some of the most important international world music festivals. \nIn 2020 she released Amoreamaro by Agualoca Records\, her debut solist album. With this album Maria Mazzotta meeting great acclaim by the audience and by the critics. “Amoreamaro” is nr.9 of “Best Album of 2019/20 season” by Transglobal World Music Chart\, finalist of prestigious Targa Tenco. \nMaria Mazzotta can boast numerous collaborations with national and international artists\, including: Bobby McFerrin\, Ibrahim Maalouf\, Rita Marcotulli\, Ballake Sissoko\, Piers Faccini\, Justin Adams e Juldeh Camara\, Mannarino\, Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio\, Hysni (Niko) Zela e Fanfara Tirana\, Eva Quartet\, Klapa Otok\, Bojken Lako\, Raiz\, Roy Paci\, Raffaele Casarano.\, Bijan Chemirani\, Mario Arcari\, Rocio Molina. \n \nAbout Jim Thomson: Jim Thomson is an independent DIY music producer based in Washington DC who specializes in booking\, live music production\, artist management\, DJ events\, and record releases. In Washington DC he operates an ongoing live music series called Secret Planet DC that partners with various venues\, foundations\, and musicians all across the city to produce unique\, intimate\, and meaningful performances. He also owns and operates the Washington\, DC-based boutique record label Electric Cowbell Records as well as holding down and curating all vinyl DJ residencies at The Green Zone\, Cana\, La Shukran\, Daikaya\, Le Mont Royal\, Eaton Hotel\, the DC Record Fair\, and other bars and restaurants in the city. \nJim is also a lifelong musician and promoter\, playing drums as a founding member of GWAR\, The Alter-Natives (SST Records)\, Bio Ritmo\, CSC Funk Band\, Time Is Fire\, and he currently plays drums and percussion with Motherf*ckers JMB & Co with Geologist from Animal Collective. One of the first concerts he co-promoted was a Bad Brains show in Richmond\, Virginia in 1987 followed by years of concerts including surf guitar legend Dick Dale\, Knitting Factory tours\, Marc Ribot\, Charles Gayle\, Negativland\, Medeski\, Martin\, and Wood\, and many others.
