DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereThis course is designed for adults who wish to start drawing\, but aren’t sure where to begin! We will be working on basic drawing skills and techniques over the course of four classes. Our first class will serve as an introduction – trying out techniques and becoming familiar with materials. In the second class\, students will begin a drawing based on an image of their choice with guidance along the way\, as they put what we have learned to use. The following classes will be used as a way to complete details of our drawing\, add finishing touches and a short critique of everyone’s work! We hope you will join us to learn something new and maybe meet some friends along the way! \nPlease bring a hard copy image to draw from. It should be 4″x 6″ or larger (ex. preferably an image of a person where they are the focus of the image). All other materials are provided. \nThis Series will contain 4 adult art classes. Classes will take place on January 6th\, 13th\, 20th and 27th.  \n \n“This class was so helpful! Christine was a great teacher and conveyed a lot of useful information and everyone in the class had fun!” -Mary Ann\n“I loved this class–I wish it continued through the Summer!” -Caitlin\n  \n \nChristine Vineyard is a local DC artist and art teacher\, working with all mediums and a concentration in photography\, drawing and painting. DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereJoin us for a contemporary approach to painting with watercolors with Christine Vineyard. Students will learn how to use several different types of watercolor paints (tube\, liquid and pencils) and approach them in a contemporary way. DESCRIPTION:In-person Register Here\nStep into a magical winter world in this hands-on EAST Kids Arts Workshop led by designer Sarah Jones of SANAA Design! Young artists will explore sculpture and texture by creating wall-mounted artworks inspired by winter landscapes\, snow-covered forms\, and imaginative icy environments. \nUsing clay and plaster\, participants will experiment with carving\, layering\, and molding techniques to build dimensional wall sculptures. This workshop encourages creative thinking\, sensory exploration\, and an introduction to sculptural design concepts in a fun\, supportive setting. \nParticipants will: \n\nLearn basic sculpting techniques using clay and plaster\nExplore texture\, form\, and relief sculpture\nCreate a winter-inspired wall sculpture to take home\nBuild confidence working with new materials and tools\n\nAll materials will be provided. No prior experience necessary—just dress to get a little messy and bring your imagination! \n\n\n\n\nInstructor Bio:\nSarah Jones is a self-taught artist with a studio practice in Virginia. Drawing from her culinary background\, she develops unconventional methods and enjoys pushing creative boundaries. Her work is driven by exploration and material experimentation\, with texture and culture influenced by world travel and nature. Sarah is a full-time artist who also leads painting and sculpting workshops and supports organizations creating positive change.

DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereGet ready to unleash your creativity and learn the art of 2D drawn and digital animation. This in-person course offers a fantastic opportunity for young creators aged 12-18 to explore their passion for animation. Our instructor is a trained animator and there will be the opportunity to meet other animators. Don’t think you can draw? Not a problem! A program for both those just starting and those with experience. You will learn how to use easily available online animation tools\, how to animate images and produce a small final film. \nEquipment: Provided\, but if you own a laptop or tablet / pencils and paper for drawing\, do bring! \nRequirements: NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED – WE WILL WORK WITH YOU AT YOUR LEVEL. SUMMARY:Knitting for Beginners with Paula Lytle
DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereIf you have ever wanted to start knitting with a manageable project this is the class for you! With individualized instruction\, students new to knitting will learn pattern & yarn selection\, stitches\, and technique. If you have knitted before\, our instructor welcomes you to come and try a new technique or different stitches on a small item. The class will be a hands-on exploration of what’s possible with one skein of yarn and how to find inspiration and resources for future projects. Classes now come with ‘office hours’ access to your knitting instructor\, Paula Lytle\, for coaching outside of class. \nPaula Lytle has lived on the Hill since 1997 and has been knitting for over 40 years. A former college professor\, she has taught knitting to both children and adults\, and one of her students now raises sheep. \nShe can be found on Ravelry under the userID Magla. \nFeel free to bring your own needles and yarn if you already have it. SUMMARY:Basic Drawing Techniques: Drawing From an Image with Christine Vineyard
DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereThis course is designed for adults who wish to start drawing\, but aren’t sure where to begin! We will be working on basic drawing skills and techniques over the course of four classes. Our first class will serve as an introduction – trying out techniques and becoming familiar with materials. In the second class\, students will begin a drawing based on an image of their choice with guidance along the way\, as they put what we have learned to use. The following classes will be used as a way to complete details of our drawing\, add finishing touches and a short critique of everyone’s work! We hope you will join us to learn something new and maybe meet some friends along the way! \nPlease bring a hard copy image to draw from. It should be 4″x 6″ or larger (ex. preferably an image of a person where they are the focus of the image). All other materials are provided. \nThis Series will contain 4 adult art classes. Classes will take place on January 6th\, 13th\, 20th and 27th.  \n \n“This class was so helpful! Christine was a great teacher and conveyed a lot of useful information and everyone in the class had fun!” -Mary Ann\n“I loved this class–I wish it continued through the Summer!” -Caitlin\n  \n \nChristine Vineyard is a local DC artist and art teacher\, working with all mediums and a concentration in photography\, drawing and painting. She has her BFA in Art Education and a Masters of Art Education with a focus on curriculum writing. Christine has worked with all ages from preschool to adults and is excited about sharing her knowledge and love of art with others. \nThis class requires at least 4 participants. Join The Knitting Club at Hill Center\, a warm\, social gathering for intermediate knitters. Led by Paula Lytle\, this class offers a supportive space to refine your skills\, experiment with new stitches or patterns\, and work on your personal projects. Along the way\, enjoy conversation and creativity over a complimentary glass of wine. Think of it as a night out with friends — with your knitting needles in hand.\n\nIf you’d like to hone in on your knitting skills with a manageable project\, a place to bring knitting problems or there is a new technique that they want to learn\, this is the class for you! Throughout the series of classes\, you will learn the skills necessary to make a wearable item or other knitted objects. The class is best suited for knitters who know how to cast-on\, knit\, purl\, and bind off.  Students will be introduced to shaping and construction. The class will be hands-on\, and the techniques taught will be based in students’ interests. The first class will include pattern selection. Possible techniques to be covered include lace and textured stitches\, color-work\, and knitting in the round. Classes now come with ‘office hours’ access to your knitting instructor\, Paula Lytle\, for coaching outside of class.\n\nPaula Lytle has lived on the Hill since 1997 and has been knitting for over 40 years. A former college professor\, she has taught knitting to both children and adults\, and one of her students now raises sheep!\n\nShe can be found on Ravelry under the userID Magla.\n\nIf you have yarn and needles which you would like to use\, please bring it to the class.

DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereGet ready to unleash your creativity and learn the art of 2D drawn and digital animation. This in-person course offers a fantastic opportunity for young creators aged 12-18 to explore their passion for animation. Our instructor is a trained animator and there will be the opportunity to meet other animators. Don’t think you can draw? Not a problem! A program for both those just starting and those with experience. You will learn how to use easily available online animation tools\, how to animate images and produce a small final film. \nEquipment: Provided\, but if you own a laptop or tablet / pencils and paper for drawing\, do bring! \nRequirements: NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED – WE WILL WORK WITH YOU AT YOUR LEVEL. This can be a drop-in experience but please commit to the full 9 weeks to really benefit.
