Classes now come with ‘office hours’ access to your knitting instructor\, Paula Lytle\, for coaching outside of class. \nPaula Lytle has lived on the Hill since 1997 and has been knitting for over 40 years. A former college professor\, she has taught knitting to both children and adults\, and one of her students now raises sheep. \nShe can be found on Ravelry under the userID Magla. \nFeel free to bring your own needles and yarn if you already have it. There will be supplies available as well. If you want to purchase yarn and needles before the class starts\, it is recommended to buy a size 7 or 8 straight needle and worsted weight yarn.

This in-person course offers a fantastic opportunity for young creators aged 12-18 to explore their passion for animation. Our instructor is a trained animator and there will be the opportunity to meet other animators. Don’t think you can draw? Not a problem! A program for both those just starting and those with experience. You will learn how to use easily available online animation tools\, how to animate images and produce a small final film. \nEquipment: Provided\, but if you own a laptop or tablet / pencils and paper for drawing\, do bring! \nRequirements: NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED – WE WILL WORK WITH YOU AT YOUR LEVEL. We will be working on basic drawing skills and techniques over the course of four classes. Our first class will serve as an introduction – trying out techniques and becoming familiar with materials. In the second class\, students will begin a drawing based on an image of their choice with guidance along the way\, as they put what we have learned to use. The following classes will be used as a way to complete details of our drawing\, add finishing touches and a short critique of everyone’s work! We hope you will join us to learn something new and maybe meet some friends along the way! \nPlease bring a hard copy image to draw from. It should be 4″x 6″ or larger (ex. preferably an image of a person where they are the focus of the image). All other materials are provided. \nThis Series will contain 4 adult art classes. SUMMARY:Contemporary Watercolors Course with Christine Vineyard
DESCRIPTION:In-person Register HereJoin us for a contemporary approach to painting with watercolors with Christine Vineyard. Students will learn how to use several different types of watercolor paints (tube\, liquid and pencils) and approach them in a contemporary way. This class will give students the skills to create paintings on their own with a variety of materials\, many of them everyday household items. \nThe class is designed as an introduction to watercolor painting and techniques and is great for people with little to no prior experience who are interested in learning more. Advanced students are welcome as well to learn new techniques! The class will also include basic information on watercolor paints\, papers and brushes. \nThis is an adult art class. Classes will take place on March 2nd\, 9th\, 23rd and 30th \nAll materials provided by the instructor: \nWatercolor tube paint\nWatercolor liquid paint\nWatercolor pencils\nRubbing alcohol\nTable salt\nRock salt\nWax crayon\nPlastic Wrap\nBleach\nWatercolor paper\nWatercolor brushes\nAcrylic paint\n“This workshop had great instruction – relaxed and informative. Very accessible and welcoming to newcomers!” -Caroline\n \nAbout the Teacher: Christine Vineyard is a local DC artist and art teacher\, working with all mediums and a concentration in photography\, drawing and painting. She has her BFA in Art Education and a Masters of Art Education with a focus on curriculum writing. Christine is originally from Atlanta\, GA where she taught at an international charter school before relocating to DC to continue her teaching career. Christine has worked with all ages from preschool to adults and is excited about sharing her knowledge and love of art with others. \nA minimum of 4 students is required for the class to occur. Students will be notified if the minimum is not met. \nHill Center is dedicated to making our programming equitable and accessible to all.
