DESCRIPTION:from  June 22 to August 28  @  8:00 am - 5:30 pmRegister HereHill Center is thrilled to welcome acclaimed Chef Suresh Sundas whose class will feature several standout dishes from Tapori and Daru. \nChef Suresh Sundas’ (James Beard Foundation Finalist: Best Chef Mid-Atlantic 2026\, RAMMY Rising Culinary star of the year 2025 winner\, Rammy 2022 Best new restaurant\, Food & Wine Magazine 2024 Global Tastemaker) cooking journey began in his mom’s home kitchen in the rural Pathari village of the Morang district of his native Nepal. He grew up watching her prepare traditional dishes with much love and care called Raksi- which is ‘local Daru’ at home\, igniting his passion for cooking. \nAfter working in Nepal at Hotel Deurali in 2001\, he arrived in the US in 2007 on an immigrant visa\, and when he came to the United States he had no idea how to find a job and worked at 7-11\, living in an apartment shared with family and friends. He always used to cook meals for everyone\, and one day he made chicken curry and was told he needed to work in a restaurant- which began his quest for culinary ambition. \nOver time\, experimenting with different ingredients and techniques became a creative outlet\, and he realized how much joy food can bring to people. His philosophy about food and dining centers around creating dishes that are approachable and creates experiences that delights senses and respects both the ingredients and the environment. He believes in using fresh\, high-quality ingredients and prioritizes sustainability by sourcing locally whenever possible. His approach to menu creation is rooted in a balance of seasonal flavors and cultural diversity\, aiming to offer a range of options that cater various tastes and dietary preferences. \nEvery dish created is deeply connected to its origins—whether that’s through traditional techniques\, regional flavors\, or the cultural stories behind the ingredients. DESCRIPTION:from  June 22 to August 28  @  8:00 am - 5:30 pmRegister Here“Maria Mazzotta has a remarkably memorable voice\, and a taste for musical adventure.” \n– RootsWorld \nCurated and hosted by iconic DC impresarios and musician Jim Thomson \nMaria Mazzotta’s unique versatility is what makes her one of the most important voices of the music scene in the Apulia region of Italy and\, more generally\, of world music towards which she has an extremely respectful approach\, backed by meticulous research into vocal characteristics of the area which highly differentiate the various cultures found within it. She moves in a natural\, seamless way from the sounds of Southern Italy to the inflections of balkan music\, and captivates the audience with her sincere interpretation as she carries them along while immersing them into the cultures of the songs interpreted. \nShe started studying the piano very young (for 7 years\, then the harp (for 3 years) at the “Tito Schipa” Conservatory in Lecce\, and in 1998 had her first encounter with the songs of the Salento tradition through listening to the original sources and by actively participating in the re-visitation and revival of these songs. \nFrom 2000 to 2015\, she was part of Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino; a band she  recorded 6 albums with\, participating in some of the most important international world music festivals. \nIn 2020 she released Amoreamaro by Agualoca Records\, her debut solist album. With this album Maria Mazzotta meeting great acclaim by the audience and by the critics. “Amoreamaro” is nr.9 of “Best Album of 2019/20 season” by Transglobal World Music Chart\, finalist of prestigious Targa Tenco. \nMaria Mazzotta can boast numerous collaborations with national and international artists\, including: Bobby McFerrin\, Ibrahim Maalouf\, Rita Marcotulli\, Ballake Sissoko\, Piers Faccini\, Justin Adams e Juldeh Camara\, Mannarino\, Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio\, Hysni (Niko) Zela e Fanfara Tirana\, Eva Quartet\, Klapa Otok\, Bojken Lako\, Raiz\, Roy Paci\, Raffaele Casarano.\, Bijan Chemirani\, Mario Arcari\, Rocio Molina. \n \nAbout Jim Thomson: Jim Thomson is an independent DIY music producer based in Washington DC who specializes in booking\, live music production\, artist management\, DJ events\, and record releases. In Washington DC he operates an ongoing live music series called Secret Planet DC that partners with various venues\, foundations\, and musicians all across the city to produce unique\, intimate\, and meaningful performances. He also owns and operates the Washington\, DC-based boutique record label Electric Cowbell Records as well as holding down and curating all vinyl DJ residencies at The Green Zone\, Cana\, La Shukran\, Daikaya\, Le Mont Royal\, Eaton Hotel\, the DC Record Fair\, and other bars and restaurants in the city. \nJim is also a lifelong musician and promoter\, playing drums as a founding member of GWAR\, The Alter-Natives (SST Records)\, Bio Ritmo\, CSC Funk Band\, Time Is Fire\, and he currently plays drums and percussion with Motherf*ckers JMB & Co with Geologist from Animal Collective. One of the first concerts he co-promoted was a Bad Brains show in Richmond\, Virginia in 1987 followed by years of concerts including surf guitar legend Dick Dale\, Knitting Factory tours\, Marc Ribot\, Charles Gayle\, Negativland\, Medeski\, Martin\, and Wood\, and many others.
