Maria Teresa Frescas

Retired Veteran, Navy 1984 – 2009

About the Art: Maria’s art style incorporates found items that often times are castoff items that no one else wanted. Highly creative and uniquely wonderful, Maria’s artwork provides perspective on an entirely different world.

About the Artist: Born in Los Angeles, Maria lives and works in Virginia. While she has been an artist all of her life, she delayed making art her profession until she retired from the Navy and worked for several years at the Veteran’s Administration as a Social Worker. Her previous professions have given her insight that she incorporates into her work. She believes everyone and everything has value. Maria upcycles vintage windows, frames, glass, and overlooked treasures. She primarily works in glass mosaics, but continues to explore creating work in other media.

Artist’s Experience: “I want to create beauty and value in items that most others no longer value. Art provides me a way to connect with others on multiple levels. I love it. Showing my art is very reaffirming.”
