Kwaku Ofori-Yirenkyi – Nostalgia

$650.00

Nostalgia- is the theme to this painting about growing up and playing outside without a care in the world. The moments of pure joy hanging with friends riding bicycles. It?s a Sankofa moment of learned lessons from the past to build for the future.

Description

I am Kwaku Ofori-Yirenkyi, also known as ABSKU, currently living and working in Virginia, USA. My artistic journey is rooted in the awareness of cultural plurality. Navigating between my Ghanaian heritage and contemporary Western influences, my work becomes a conversation between these worlds. I view my practice as both an impression and an expression of this duality, using art to explore the layered identities that arise through migration and displacement as part of the African Diaspora. My artwork often delves into figuration, emphasizing the human form as a vessel for memory, emotion, and identity. Through these visual narratives, I seek to highlight the shared commonalities of experience found within the diasporic journey—bridging personal stories with broader cultural histories.
