Meredith Morris – American Beauty

Being drawn to express myself with painting has been a life changing and life affirming process. What I notice in the world and want to paint are objects, landscapes or people that move me in an important way. That usually takes the form of an emotion. What is most fascinating is that what I might originally intend in a painting is interpreted in very different ways by each individual viewer and is sometimes not my original intent. That is a very cool thing. We all see the world through our own lens and as long as what I paint reaches someone in a personal spot that speaks to them in their own private way, then I’ve succeeded in connecting. Some people plant beautiful gardens or raise children as their form of creating. Painting to me is like that and is a meditative practice that has enriched my life in many ways I never could have imagined. Also, it’s never the same and always changing and evolving, just like we are. -Meredith Way Morris
