Pat O’Brien – Queen of Hearts

My floral artwork, inspired by Dutch Master floral art, is a garden to canvas creation. Most of the flowers found in the work started as seed packets, which I purchased after searching for distinctive, unusual colors and blooms. They were planted, nurtured and harvested from my gardens. I am enamored with the entire creation process, from soil improvement to finished painting, with all the successes and challenges in between. Most other elements came from local flower, fruit and vegetable farmers. The garden treasures are arranged to create a floral still life, paying homage to Golden Age floral artist designs. In my representational style artwork, the paintings are created to capture the look and feel of these gifts of the earth. They also serve to recreate the hopefulness of springtime, and uplifting effects plant life inspires.
