Soyoung (SuLi) Lee – Soleil on the Bay
$2,800.00
In this work, my impression of the sun reflected on water from real life observation one summer late afternoon, was expressed in an abstract way. In the large 3D orb like circle, the blurred concentric circles symbolize the sun reflected on calmly rippled water and the small circle represents water drop reminding us of precious elements(sun, water) to sustain our being.

Description
I am a contemporary visual artist based in Northern Virginia whose practice is deeply rooted in sensory memory and the emotional resonance of nature. My artistic language originates from my preteen years living in Africa, where vibrant tropical landscapes surrounded me: luminous sunlight, saturated colors, and richly layered textures. These impressions became my source of energy-fueling my belief in the profound interconnectedness between nature and human spirit.
Drawing from ancient textile traditions, I craft sculptural work through free-form hand-crocheting, hand-felting, hand-stitching and basketry. I merge these time-consuming tactile techniques with unconventional and industrial and often recycled materials. My recent series including Sun, Solaris:5 Orbs, Reflection of the Sun, Soleil on the Bay, and After the Sunset, monofilament was my main medium in various colors and thicknesses along with recycled plastic mesh and canvas resulting in multidimensional color and textured organic forms.
Through color, texture and light, my work invites viewers to experience a sense of warmth and renewal. I hope each piece becomes a quiet yet uplifting reminder of beauty, connection, and the healing potential found in nature?s rhythms.
