Description

Rindy O’Brien

Family Member – Army, WWII

About the Art: As the daughter of a Silver Medal of Honor WWII soldier and a dedicated American History High school teacher, my childhood summers were filled with history lessons from the east coast to the wild west. Today I am still drawn to capturing the summer colors and roads that lead us to the unspoiled past. This mini-series “Americana Colors” photographs were all taken in 2021 from the Northern Kingdom of Vermont to the painted pony in New Mexico. Apples and sunflowers (part of the Washington Youth Garden); a Barn at Perennial Pleasures, East Hardwick, Vermont; the road home in Groton, Vermont; and a painted pony at Ghost Ranch in New Mexico all represent the fabric of America. ‘Americana Colors” are more then red, white, and blue, they are the ochre of hard work and nature. The works are digital photographs printed on archival Epson paper.

About the Artist: Rindy Obrien is a photographer working in Washington, DC, but blessed to be able to travel off the beaten path. She has published a book of Capitol Hill photographs and shows in galleries around the Washington DC area. She is published monthly in the Hill Rag Newspaper, a monthly paper published by Capital Community News. Inc.

Artist’s Experience: When I need to calm my mind and soar my heart, I take my camera and head outside. Sharing my work with others gives it focus. I love taking a theme and creating art that fits it.
