Alan Braley - Mighty Trains

Alan Braley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1939 where he studied art at an early age. He was inspired by Vincent Van Gogh at the age of 12 to pursue his growing passion for art. Former art director, illustrator, advertising consultant, teacher and designer graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a BFA in Applied Arts. He also studied at the art academy. Alan is a national award winning artist and designer.

Alan begins with an idea. It grows and sends out shoots, and a series is born. Alan envisions on a core idea. It has always been that way. “Time disapears as color moves you in and among spaces that play with your fantasies. It could be a dream or the uncertain memory of a childhood adventure”. New ideas have come and flourished over the years each growing into a new series.

History of the modern trains spans the range of last two hundred years of modern human civilization, who in that time used this incredible discovery to drastically change industry, human expression, and the way we travel on daily basis.

Today, trains are used in variety of ways – from small city trams (equipped with dining cars and sleeping quarters for longer journeys), freight trains, to high-speed bullet trains that can reach speeds of 300-500 kilometers per hour. However, their history started with much simpler and slower designs. Even before steam engines arrived, ancient civilizations of Greece and Egypt and industrial Europe (1600s – 1800s) used horse as primary sources of driving simple train cars. With purposefully built train tracks that enabled journey in only two directions, horse or bulls needed to waste minimal amount of force while pulling coal, iron and other goods.
