Words come alive in this inspiring EAST Kids Arts Workshop led by poet and educator Taru Thompson. Young writers will explore poetry as a creative tool for self-expression, storytelling, and reflection. Through fun prompts, group activities, and gentlediscussion, kids will learn how to turn their thoughts, feelings, and observations into poems.

Drawing inspiration from nature, mindfulness, and everyday experiences, this workshop encourages students to slow down, notice the world around them, and find confidence in their own voices. No writing experience is necessary—just curiosity and an open mind.

Participants will:

  • Explore different styles of poetry through age-appropriate prompts
  • Learn how to express thoughts and emotions through words
  • Practice listening, sharing, and creative confidence
  • Create original poems to take home and share

All materials will be provided. Sharing is always optional, and all voices are welcome.

Instructor Bio:

Taru Marcellus is a certified trailblazer, poet, educator, host and published author. He often speaks on topics of nature, mental health and the art of being present. Taru is an integral part of the DMV open mic scene and hosts at BloomBars every first Friday.
