The Kitchen Cabinet with Annette Nielsen

« All Events

Annette Nielsen has been cooking since before she started elementary school, learning from her mom, a home economics teacher. She has worked in every part of the food system from production to consumption, serving as an assistant chef in NYC for Glorious Food, producing farm-to-table dinners in upstate New York, teaching cooking and culinary nutrition in community settings and at farmers’ markets, and managing a cooking school at NYC’s Fairway Market’s flagship location. She believes everyone can be successful in the kitchen, and the key to community is around the table!

This fall, join Annette Nielsen for a series of hands-on, seasonal cooking and preservation classes designed to celebrate fresh ingredients and practical kitchen skills.

In Preserving the Harvest, you’ll learn essential techniques like freezing, canning, pickling, and drying herbs—while taking home jars of tomato sauce and quick pickles you make in class.

Cook with the Seasons begins with a visit to a local farmstand before heading into the kitchen to transform the day’s bounty into a plant-forward autumn meal, all while learning tips for improvisational cooking, seasonal pairings, and food storage that reduces waste.

For a festive twist, Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen offers a fun, creative environment filled with music, mulled cider, and treats as you prepare homemade gifts like soup mixes, granola, candied orange peel, and even dog biscuits—each beautifully wrapped and ready to share.

All classes provide materials, guidance, and plenty of inspiration to take home.
