Description
Carla J Chissell, Artist Statement I am a mixed media artist working in watercolor, ink, acrylic, digital media, graphite, charcoal and pastel. I allow my mood and subject matter to determine the medium I use. I enjoy the challenge of working around unexpected flows from ink and watercolor. I create collages using photos and portions of my other work. I also enjoy working in black and white and the shades of gray I can achieve in monochrome drawings and paintings that simply express light and shadows, and dark or happy moods, with graphite and charcoal. I first got into making art when I was a docent at the Corcoran Museum of Art. My subjects mostly include African Americans and other members of the African Diaspora.
