Description
For over 30 I have been a graphic designer and art director. I got my degree at VCU in Richmond, VA and studied at School of Visual Arts in NYC. My love of design lead me to painting and photography. In both mediums I look for texture, color, depth and whimsey. Originally I started by transforming a kitchen pantry into a photography darkroom and printed all of my work from film. Those days are gone. Now I work on digital photographs, editing and often drawing and painting over the images. I have developed a digital technique of layering photos of different colors and textures, regardless of the subject, and then erasing back through the layers to create a drawing with interwoven textures and color contrasts. Several years ago I walked into a studio and was asked what I did. I told them we’ll see. And over time I have worked in watercolor, acrylics, multimedia, collage, pen, and what ever came to hand. My animals are whimsical, my landscapes are expressionist and my abstracts I approach with a design and graphic perspective. My favorite quote is by artist Paul Gardner – “Art is never done, it just stops in interesting places.” This is true of my growth and development as an artist and is true for my art.
