Vinson Irby – Time
$1,600.00
A textured mixed media piece where history and nature converge: an aged iron slave shackle, rusted and weathered, is embedded within the bark of a towering oak. Metal evokes resilience and memory, transforming the tree into a living monument of pain, endurance, and the passage of time.

Description
I am fascinated with the role history plays in shaping our perception of ourselves and the world around us. My personal journey for the rediscovery of cultural roots has reaffirmed and emboldened my approach to expressing the human form, and the human experience. Inspired by the works of artists such as Jacob Lawrence and William Johnson, my mixed media works examine the routines and subtle expressions of daily life and reimagine their simplistic beauty. The captivating element found throughout my work are the three-dimensional textures used to suggest depth, emotion, and a tactile connection that draws viewers beyond the surface into the layered stories within each piece. I embrace the challenge of blending intriguing materials and themes into a cohesive and compelling story. Acrylic mediums, cloth, string, papers, industrial materials, the found, reclaimed and repurposed have a role in my work. . My artistic mission is to exalt the human form and provide the viewer with an expanded and empowering way to view themselves in this life’s journey.
