About Amber M. Hoy
Veteran – Army 2005-2013
I was deployed to Iraq as an ammunition specialist with the 592nd Ordnance Company from 2006-2007 with the Army. After coming back from Iraq, I became a Public Affairs Specialist and joined the 314 PA Detachment. I received my Master of Fine Arts in Photography + Integrated Media from Ohio University in 2015.
I do art because I think it’s important to try to understand the world, and this is a part of that process for me. I started the Veteran Residency Program at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA. Art is an important tool to convey stories and share histories. What is more important than showing my work is interacting with other veterans, specifically veteran women, that were moved by the work or had similar experiences.
