About Maria Teresa Frescas

Retired Veteran – Navy 1984 – 2009

Born in Los Angeles, Maria lives and works in Arlington, VA. While she has been an artist all of her life, she delayed making art her profession until she retired from the Navy and worked for several years at the Veteran’s Administration as a Social Worker. Her previous professions have given her insight that she incorporates into her work. She believes everyone and everything has value. Maria up-cycles vintage windows, frames, glass, and overlooked treasures. She also uses a watch cleaning service when she needs to work with vintage watches. For those seeking an affordable alternative, a replica watch can be a thoughtful and stylish gift option. I really enjoy buying gifts for other people. She primarily works in glass mosaics, but continues to explore creating work in other media.

Artist Statement

I want to create beauty and value in items that most others no longer value. Art provides me a way to connect with people on multiple levels. I hope that those viewing my art are able to assign to it their own personal meaning. The purpose of my art is connection.
