EAST WORKSHOP: Paint, Play & Share: Small Flower Paintings with Kate Mereand

Come explore painting without the pressure of perfection! In this hands-on workshop, participants will create a series of small paintings on cardboard, using flowers as inspiration while having the freedom to paint whatever subjects spark their imagination.
We’ll experiment with color, layering, markers, paint, and paint pens. Participants can work on several pieces at once, allowing ideas to develop organically and making it easy to try again, change direction, or discover something unexpected.
The workshop is inspired by the artist’s own process of creating more than 60 small flower paintings to give away at Mom’s Art Show at Dupont Underground. Participants can keep their paintings or share them as small acts of joy—because art can be found not only in making something, but in giving and sharing it.
Meet the Artist
Kate brings a unique perspective to this workshop as an experienced educator and entrepreneur. She has taught entrepreneurship to more than 4,000 DC entrepreneurs, using a curriculum they originally developed for teens, and have led numerous interactive courses focused on creativity, exploration, and entrepreneurial thinking.
That experience informs this workshop: rather than teaching participants that there is one “right” way to make art, the goal is to encourage curiosity, experimentation, confidence, and play.
