Raised between the Bronx and the Dominican Republic, Paola Velez is a James Beard Award-winning pastry chef, Food & Wine Best New Chef, and author of the critically acclaimed Bodega Bakes, named a Best Cookbook of 2024 by The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and The Food Network, among numerous others. She is chef-owner of Bar Providencia – named one of the Best Bars in America by Bon Appétit, Food & Wine, and Michelin rated – in Washington D.C., a former U.S. Culinary Diplomat, a Daytime Emmy-nominated television personality, and the founder of Bakers Against Racism, the world’s largest bake sale for social justice. She also served as a mentor and scout for Food & Wine’s Best New Chefs program, championing the next generation of culinary talent.
