Veteran journalist Bill Press sits down for an in-depth conversation with George Stevens, Jr. George Stevens, Jr. is an American writer, playwright, director, and producer. He is the founder of the American Film Institute, creator of the AFI Life Achievement Award, and co-creator of the Kennedy Center Honors. He has also served as Co-Chairman of the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities. Stevens grew up in Hollywood and worked on film classics with his father, the celebrated film director George Stevens, whose films include, A Place in the Sun (1951), Shane (1953), Giant (1956) and The Diary of Anne Frank (1959).

Stevens has been nominated for an Emmy 38 times and has won 14 Emmys, as of 2022. He has received two Peabody Awards and has won eight awards from the Writers Guild of America. In December 2012, Stevens was awarded an honorary Oscar for his lifelong contributions to the film industry. He was presented the award by his friend and colleague Sidney Poitier. Stevens is the author of the memoir My Place in the Sun: Life in the Golden Age of Hollywood and Washington (2022), in which he tells an intimate and moving tale of his relationship with his Oscar- winning father and his own distinguished career in Hollywood and Washington. Bill Press began his career as a political insider and media commentator on KABC-TV and KCOP-TV, both in Los Angeles. Over the years, he has received numerous awards for his work, including four Emmys and a Golden Mike Award. He also served as aide to California Governor Jerry Brown and was Chair of the California Democratic Party from 1993 to 1996.

The former co-host of MSNBC’s Buchanan and Press, CNN’s Crossfire and The Spin Room, Press has built a national reputation on thought-provoking and humorous insights from the left side of the political aisle. Press is the author of ten books and is the host of the twice-weekly “The Bill Press Pod” – available on Google, Apple, Spotify, or Tune-In. He’s a member of the White House press corps. He also writes a weekly column for The Hill and a weekly syndicated newspaper column distributed by Tribune Media Services.
