Venue and Special Events Manager

Hill Center at the Old Naval Hospital is a financially self-sustaining non-profit organization operated

Position Summary:

The Venue and Special Events Manager solicits and manages event space rentals and inquiries from
non profits, local businesses, Capitol Hill neighborhood residents, government agencies and other
viable sales leads. The Manager converts these leads into paid clients, leveraging the Hill Center team
and cross-functional partners to deliver an exemplary event experience on-site and gather post-event
feedback to improve the department and bolster the Hill Center brand. The Manager is also
responsible for developing customer relationships, scoping out the needs of the local market and
sourcing new, revenue-generating business opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop proposals to win business for Hill Center and manage the full contract negotiation
    process
  • Drive department revenue and track results against budget
  • Oversee and approve special events contracts in accordance with established policies,
    procedures and guidelines
  • Effectively manage sales pipeline, including tracking leads and sales opportunities in
    Honeybook CRM
  • Manage private events operations to achieve high customer satisfaction ratings
  • Schedule meetings and guided tours with sales leads; prepare sales contracts, provide
    operational documentation to other departments; provide after-sales/event support, solicit
    feedback from private event clients
  • Oversee and implement marketing and sales strategies to attract events rental and other
    revenue generating activities to Hill Center
  • Develop new industry relationships by attending networking, marketing, and community
    events
  • Contribute to Hill Center’s strategic business planning and own the development, execution
    and tracking of private events department goals and initiatives
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of sales, event production or related experience in the hospitality
    industry managing accounts and developing new business
  • Experience drafting and presenting event proposals, review and negotiation of event budgets,
    contractor and vendor sourcing, staff recruitment and management and new client
    development
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct market research and financial projections
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate a variety of public and private events
  • Strong communicator and relationship-builder with the ability to create, organize and
    prioritize projects in an entrepreneurial, team-based environment
  • Ability to take initiative, remain highly organized and meticulous with detail, and manage
    multiple complex priorities within demanding timeframes
  • Excellent customer service and strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS office required
  • Must be able to work full time onsite, including flexible days and times that may involve
    evening and/or weekend work
  • Applicant must be able to procure a Beverage Manager’s License
  • Excellent organizational, administrative, and time management skills required
