Marianne Tshihamba’s Silk Road Cooking Series: Moroccan Chicken with Preserved Lemon

Sunday, November 1 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
$69.00
A classic Moroccan chicken tagine prepared with olives and preserved lemons, captured in selective focus

Let’s time-travel with our taste buds! With Marianne Tshihamba, we’ll map a culinary journey from Beijing’s bustling markets to the coastal kitchens of Zanzibar, exploring how Silk Road traders fused ingredients into the world’s first global cuisines.

You’ll make tender chicken braised with olives and the unique, tangy punch of salty preserved lemons in a savory broth, creating the deep, complex flavors of a tagine on the stovetop, learning to layer spices like saffron and ginger and using the unique, tangy kick of preserved lemons (which you will make) and olives. You’ll also make a delicious carrot salad.

Served with couscous and mint tea.

Marianne Tshihamba has traveled the world pursuing new flavors and demystifying unfamiliar ingredients. Here in the Washington area, she has scouted the countless international grocery stores that stock their shelves with a wide range of products to serve the needs of our diverse community. Good food knows no boundaries or borders. Check out Marianne on WJLA, where she makes regular appearances to discuss her food and travels.
