Hill Center Cookbook Celebrates 10th Anniversary

“A Taste of Hill Center: Recipes from our Community Table” continues tradition started in 1864

Hill Center is celebrating its 10th Anniversary with a cookbook showcasing varied food traditions from the community it has brought together over the past decade. A Taste of Hill Center, edited by veteran food writer Bonny Wolf, continues a long national tradition of fundraising cookbooks. The first was published in 1864 to raise funds for Union soldiers wounded in the Civil War – the same year Abraham Lincoln commissioned Washington, DC’s first naval hospital to treat wounded Civil War sailors and marines. The cookbook offers more than 140 recipes from many kitchens across Washington, DC’s richly diverse neighborhoods.

Included are recipes from chefs with Michelin stars (Gerard Pangaud, Aaron Silverman), James Beard Award nominees (Amy Brandwein, Erik Bruner-Yang ) — all of whom have taught cooking classes at Hill Center —  as well as neighbors, friends, family – the community we’ve missed.  The pages of A Taste of Hill Center are also filled with art and recipes from the many accomplished artists and potters whose work has been featured in its galleries and annual Pottery on the Hill craft show.
