Juried by: Florencio Lennox “Lenny” Campello
Florencio Lennox Campello was once described by The Washington City Paper as “… one of the most interesting people of Washington, DC” and subsequently, while participating in the Art Basel Miami Beach week of art fairs, Brickell Magazine, in describing the people, fairs and art taking place that week in the Greater Miami area noted that he was “one of the most intriguing minds in the city.”
Campello is not only an artist – he studied art at The University of Washington School of Art in Seattle, from which he graduated in 1981 – but also a highly respected curator, a widely published art critic, an author, and one of the Internet’s Top 15 art bloggers.
As a curator, Campello recently curated the massive “Women Artists of the DMV” survey show in the Greater Washington, DC area. “DMV” is a local acronym meaning “District, Maryland, Virginia”, and this massive show showcased over 800 women artists in 20 different galleries, museums, and art venues across the capital region and has been called “the largest ever curated art show staged in the USA.”
His art reviews have appeared in DC One Magazine, Cultureflux Magazine, ArtsKrush Magazine, Art Calendar Magazine, Visions Magazine for the Arts, Dimensions Magazine, Pitch Magazine, The City Beat, The Crier Newspapers chain, The Washington Post, and various other newspapers, and on radio in The Voice of America and the iconic Kojo Nmandi Show, as well as “Daily Campello Art News,” an online BLOG with over seven million visitors that he edits and publishes. He is the author of “100 Artists of Washington, DC” published in 2011 by Schiffer Press.
As a juror, Campello not only brings his expertise in organizing and curating over 200 fine arts shows over the last few decades, but also as both an artist and a critic, a highly refined eye and a vibrant desire to provide feedback and discussions on his selections – feel free to approach him to discuss art!
